New Portfolios, Finally!!!

Almost eight years in the making!  A little word of advice, don’t wait eight years to update your print portfolio.  Seriously bad idea.  My book hadn’t been updated pretty much since I graduated in Dec 2001.

In Dec 2001, I started with an off the shelf faux leather Prat Classic Spiralbook from Meiningers Art Supply.  No Plastic Sleeves would not have approved.  At the time I was thinking, why spend all the money for a custom made portfolio when I knew it was only a matter of time before it was updated.  Haha, guess I was a little off on that one.  But hey, I still won Best Book (toot toot).  Truth be told, post graduation I only showed that portfolio to three people.  The first was a Don Jones who hired me as an assistant way back when.  The second was John Yost at Marblestreet Studio who hired me as his studio manager and second shooter.  The third was the Art Director at Weaver Multimedia Group which is where I spent five years as their in house photographer.  as first the majority of the last eight years.  I walked away with about 25,000 images. Virtually unedited.

My process:  First up I had to work my way through eight years of images.  It took me quite a while to strip that mass down to about 1500.  At that point, I was wasted.  I literally did not want to look at my images anymore.  Which is where the fabulous Amanda Sosa Stone came into the picture.  I passed the 1500 off to her and viola, four days later I had two draft portfolios, completely layed out as well as an edit for my website.  I was super thrilled.  After a few tweaks here and there, the inner pages were finalized and I started printing…Epson 3800 on double sided Moab Entrada.  For the covers I went with Lost Luggage Frosted Green Looking Glass..again nothing really fancy primarily because I’m on a very tight marketing budget!

So here we are with two portfolio, Travel and Lifestyle:

It feels good to have those done. Sooo…branding, check…portfolios, check…time to start making some phone calls. Since luck is where preparation meets opportunity, wish me opportunity!!
